Indonesia Island Trip. Day 1: Lombok - Gili Terawangan

Sarapan pagi  kat airport
We had been rotating to visit the Southeast Asian country each year, and this is the fourth time visiting Indonesia after Bali (2010), Bukittinggi (2012), and Bandung (2014). Looks like we made a return every 2 years; that's interesting! We may need to consider other countries like Brunei, the Philippines, or Cambodia in the near future.

Three hours later, we arrived at Lombok International Airport at noon. We were welcomed by Pak Ibrahim's staff shortly after clearing immigration and collecting our luggage. The weather that day was slightly overcast. En route to Teluk Kodek Port, we stopped at Sukarara Weaving Village. By the time we reached there, it was raining heavily. It is a traditional craft of weaving center located in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

Not much was seen, as it felt, but we had ayam taliwang for lunch at Taliwang Alam Nyaman restaurant, known for its famous local dish. Alpukat Jus (Avocado Juice) is also a must-try whenever you visit Indonesia. I know, the juice is available in any Indonesian restaurant in Malaysia, but I loved the catatonic feeling while traveling. :P

It was about 15 minutes from Teluk Kodek to Gili Trawangan by speedboat. Pak Ibrahim had reserved the boat prior to our arrival. We checked into Villa Ombak Hotel, located just about a 5-minute walk from its private jetty. As our room was not ready yet, we were offered an upgraded room, as we had been waiting in a non-air-conditioned hotel lobby.

Perut dah lapor..order makanan pun lambat...ayam pun sampai lambat jugak
A speedboat cruise just for us

Initially, we would like to book Ombak Sunset, whose main attraction is its cradle, which is located in the water. But one of my friends recommended staying at Villa Ombak Hotel. It was nearer to the town and in fact, it was the same management. Each room comes with an en suite open-air bathroom!

We were welcomed with a fruit punch
Nu and I were looking for a bike rental, as it is the easiest mode of transportation.
Nui'man... please behave!

We had seafood for our dinner. Though it is not cheap, presumably a marine-rich island, the calamari did not taste good either.

Harga boleh tahan mahal jugak
