Watch out! It was a Zika-free :P trip to the city of light that we had on the 2nd mid-term school holiday, apart from the 'balik kampung' to Ipoh and JB on both weekends. My wife managed to secure a stay for 2 nights at the 'Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan,' where it was supposed to be a big family trip with my siblings. It was a big vacation house, which I believe can cater to at least 15-20 people. For some reason, they had to turn it down.
Note: Pictures taken are not of the best quality, as I'm still getting my hands on the new DSLR camera. wink... wink...
Family Hall on the 1st floor
The master bedroom was so big.
The 2nd bedroom and even the 3rd room on the other side considered spacious

Maybe next time we should have a big family's
We didn't make any plans for places to visit, and since we stayed near Orchard Road, it would be easy to roam around the city. After checking in, we stopped at Arab Street for lunch at the famous Zam Zam restaurant. Unfortunately the store is not yet open. They do not serve lunch? That's weird. We headed to the other restaurant, AL-Tasneem, where I would think that their beriyani rice and murtabak are tasty as well.
The Sultan Mosque is just in front of this restaurant, and coming out of the back entrance, there are a bunch of souvenir shops along the street heading to Kampung Glam. We visited the historical Istana Kampung Glam, showcasing the Malay heritage and culture. It is a small museum but worth visiting.
When people say it's the best, it truly is the best. Trust me!
The Sultan Mosque
A nominal fee of SGD4 for admission
It was a nice colonial building
Papan tanda zaman dahulu
Wohooo... This is classic!
Burger...anyone?
Later in the late evening, we had a boat cruise to the Marina Bay Sands and watched a captivating laser show. The show started at 9.30pm and it can also be enjoyed by the Marina Bay
Singapore River glittered at night
Ambik gambar pun jadi laa...
The laser point out from the top of Marina Bay Sands.
On the next morning, we visited the National Museum of Singapore. We spent more than 2 hours exploring the main museum as well as the temporary exhibition. A single ticket cost of SGD10 includes all access to 'We Built a Nation,' 'Modern Colony,' 'Singapore History Gallery,' and others.
Ohh, by the way, our stay was quite far from the MRT station, so we drove to most of the places we visited. Most attractions will require you to pay a parking fee. A Nets CashCard can take care of your car park charges and ERP, which can be purchased at any 7-Eleven outlet.
There are 40 crystals to commemorate the Jubilee of the Queen.
Main concourse leading to Stamford Gallery
Six-course meal, anyone?
Nyonya bangun pagi, siram pokok bunga...
Nu'man intrigued with the old TV
We went downtown to Orchard Road to stroll along for window shopping before heading back to rest. In the evening, we went to the Garden by the Bays. There are three main attractions that can be visited, but we opted only for Flower Dome and Cloud Forest and saved the OCBC Skyway for the next trip. Entrance to both conservatories is SGD28, while there was public access to several gardens, such as Bay East Garden, Heritage Garden, and many more.
Supertree Grooves come with audio performance at night
Not to forget the Far East Children Garden
The Flower Dome entrance
The conservatory was spacious, not to mention the abundance of PokéStops. :P
The best shots
Not much pictures in the cloud forest, as it quite dark
Enjoy the audio performance below
On the third day, we pay a visit to Mandai Zoo on the way back to JB. Again, we saved the River Cruise and Night Safari for the next visit.
Sighh... We were supposed to visit Australia this year, but...
I will follow Zarin's example from his wrapping-up post and do the same for my record. This post will be updated from time to time. Most of the trips may have a specific write-up, and you can click on the travel month. Here is the world travel map, courtesy of TripAdvisor. Here are some statistics: The total number of countries visited is 25 out of 195. [Last updated: September 2025]
Our trip to Malé, Maldives, was a mix of excitement and relaxation. From smooth flights to scenic speedboat rides, we had a wonderful time exploring Maafushi Island. This journey gave us peaceful sunsets, tasty meals, and the chance to soak up the beauty of this tropical paradise. We started our journey early in the morning at Terminal 1, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). Our flight was scheduled for 10:20 am with Batik Air, flight number OD 293. The check-in process was smooth, and we were ready for the adventure ahead. The flight took 4 hours and 25 minutes, crossing over the stunning Indian Ocean. We landed at Velana International Airport (MLE), Male, around 1 pm local time. The view from the plane as we approached Male was breathtaking—clear blue waters and tiny islands dotting the ocean. After landing in Male, we headed to counter 13 for the Kaani Speed Boat service. It’s an efficient way to get from Male to nearby islands like Maafushi. We boarded at around 2 pm for ...
Welcome to our family's exciting journey through Perth, Western Australia! Join us as we uncover the hidden gems and must-see attractions of this vibrant city. Perth is also a great base for exploring other parts of Western Australia, such as Margaret River, a region known for its wine production and surfing. Fremantle, a historic port town with a bohemian vibe, and Pinnacles Desert, a surreal landscape of limestone pillars that rise from the sand. These were among the places we visited while in Perth. We were flying into Perth Airport with AirAsia in the morning, of course with a 'slight' delay. Immediately after passing the passport verification counter, we were checked by immigration. Unfortunately, some of our food items were confiscated, allegedly in violation of the rules... :-( Without delay, we went straight to the rental car counter located outside the building. The process of picking up a car is very easy and smooth. Since it was almost dark, we headed straight ...
