Indian Ocean Escapade. Day 1: Kuala Lumpur - Malé, Maldives

Our trip to Malé, Maldives, was a mix of excitement and relaxation. From smooth flights to scenic speedboat rides, we had a wonderful time exploring Maafushi Island. This journey gave us peaceful sunsets, tasty meals, and the chance to soak up the beauty of this tropical paradise.

We started our journey early in the morning at Terminal 1, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). Our flight was scheduled for 10:20 am with Batik Air, flight number OD 293. The check-in process was smooth, and we were ready for the adventure ahead.

The flight took 4 hours and 25 minutes, crossing over the stunning Indian Ocean. We landed at Velana International Airport (MLE), Male, around 1 pm local time. The view from the plane as we approached Male was breathtaking—clear blue waters and tiny islands dotting the ocean.

After landing in Male, our next stop was counter 13 for the Kaani Speed Boat service. It’s an efficient way to get from Male to nearby islands like Maafushi. We boarded at around 2 pm for a short ride across the water.

The speedboat ride itself was quite an experience. The boat cut smoothly through the waves, and we enjoyed incredible views of turquoise waters all around us. This part of the journey felt exciting yet peaceful—a perfect introduction to island life.

By the time we reached Maafushi Island, it felt like stepping into another world. The clear skies and warm breeze welcomed us as we arrived at the jetty—a small but lively spot where locals and tourists mingled.

From the jetty, it was just a 10-minute walk to our accommodation—the Kaani Grand Seaview Hotel. This hotel is right by the beach, offering amazing views of the ocean from its rooms.

Checking in was quick and easy, which gave us more time to relax after traveling most of the day. The hotel had a welcoming vibe with friendly staff who made sure everything went smoothly for us.

The room itself was comfortable with modern amenities. But let’s be honest—the highlight was definitely being so close to the beach! Stepping out onto our balcony and seeing that endless stretch of blue water made all those travel hours worth it instantly.

Bikini beach, just in front of the hotel

After settling in at the hotel, we headed straight to the beach. It was just steps away from our room, making it super convenient. The sand was soft under our feet, and the water was crystal clear. We couldn’t resist taking a relaxing walk along the shore.

As the evening approached, we decided to sit by the beach and watch the sunset. The sky turned into shades of orange and pink, reflecting on the calm waters. It was peaceful and absolutely stunning—one of those moments you just want to pause and take in fully.

Nu'man enjoyed playing near the water while we soaked up the view. Watching a sunset in Maafushi is a must-do. It’s simple but magical, offering a perfect way to unwind after a day of travel.

We entering the local neighborhood...

... and wander around this small island.

When night fell, we decided to explore Maafushi’s small neighborhood. The island has a laid-back vibe with friendly locals and cozy streets. Everything here feels close-knit, which makes walking around easy and enjoyable.

For dinner, we opted for pizza at one of the local eateries near our hotel. The food was delicious—freshly made with generous toppings—and had that homemade touch you can only find in smaller places like this.

After dinner, we continued wandering through Maafushi’s quiet streets. There were small shops selling souvenirs and local crafts, as well as cafes where people gathered to chat or enjoy coffee. While it’s not bustling with nightlife, there’s something charming about its simplicity.

The calmness of Maafushi at night felt refreshing compared to busy city life back home. It gave us time to relax as a family without distractions—a rare treat during most vacations.

Along the alley, you can see many of these chairs.

We bought some souvenirs.

Tomorrow, we have scheduled a snorkeling excursion by Seadrop Tour.

Indonesia Island Trip. Day 1: Lombok - Gili Terawangan

Sarapan pagi  kat airport We had been rotating to visit the Southeast Asia country each year and this is the fourth time visit to Indonesia after Bali (2010),  Bukittinggi (2012) and Bandung (2014). Looks like we made a return every 2 years, that's interesting! We may need to consider other countries like Brunei, Philippines or Cambodia in the near future. Three hours later, we arrived Lombok International Airport at noon. We were welcomed by Pak Ibrahim's staff shortly after clearing immigration and collecting our luggage. The weather that day was slightly overcast. En route to Teluk Kodek Port, we stopped at Sukarara Weaving Village. By the time we reached there, it was raining heavily. It is a traditional craft of weaving center located in Lombok West Nusa Tenggara. Not much seen as it felt, we had  ayam taliwang for lunch at Taliwang Alam Nyaman restaurant, known for its famous local dish. Alpukat Jus (Avocado Juice) is also a must try whenever you vi...
