Western Australia Trip. Day 1-2: Kuala Lumpur - Perth

Welcome to our family's exciting journey through Perth, Western Australia! Join us as we uncover the hidden gems and must-see attractions of this vibrant city.

Perth is also a great base for exploring other parts of Western Australia, such as Margaret River, a region known for its wine production and surfing.

Fremantle, a historic port town with a bohemian vibe, and Pinnacles Desert, a surreal landscape of limestone pillars that rise from the sand. These were among the places we visited while in Perth.

We were flying into Perth Airport with AirAsia in the morning, of course with a 'slight' delay. Immediately after passing the passport verification counter, we were checked by immigration. Unfortunately, some of our food items were confiscated, allegedly in violation of the rules... :-(

Without delay, we went straight to the rental car counter located outside the building. The process of picking up a car is very easy and smooth. Since it was almost dark, we headed straight to the inn in the center of Perth and had dinner with the supplies we brought.

First of all, let me describe the weather. Perth has a Mediterranean climate, which means it has hot and dry summers and mild and wet winters. The average temperature in summer is around 30°C, while in winter it drops to about 18°C. The best time to visit Perth is from September to May, when the weather is pleasant and sunny, and there are many festivals and events happening around the city.

Our journey in Perth begins with a scenic drive to Wadjuk Car Park; we stopped at Blue Boat House for a photo stop before continuing to the gateway of the expansive Kings Park & Botanic Garden. Covering an impressive 4.06 km², this park is one of the largest inner-city parks globally, situated on the outskirts of Perth's central business district. As we step into this green oasis, we are greeted by lush landscapes and stunning views that showcase the natural beauty of Western Australia.

While exploring Kings Park, make sure to visit iconic landmarks such as the Beedawong amphitheater and the State War Memorial. These sites offer a glimpse into Perth's history and culture while providing picturesque backdrops for memorable family photos. For a unique perspective of the Botanic Gardens, we embark on an exhilarating walk above them on the Lotterywest Federation Walkway. This elevated walk extends 620 meters and takes us among the treetops, offering panoramic views of the surrounding flora and fauna.

Continuing our adventure in Perth, we head towards Elizabeth Quay, where we park at CPP Terrace Road before embarking on our next exploration—climbing the historic Bell Tower. Visitors can ring the tower's bells and ascend to an observation deck for breathtaking views of Perth's skyline.

Then, we strolled along the stunning Supreme Court Gardens, part of an important open space area in the city’s Central Business District, and headed to Perth Town Hall. Completed in 1870, this delightful Victorian Gothic landmark was completely restored in 2005. It is the only convict-built capital city town hall in Australia.

After lunch at the Sahara Middle Eastern Cuisine, we visited another oldest city building, the Old Court House Law Museum. Perth's first courthouse, constructed in 1836, is one of Western Australia’s most significant cultural heritage sites.

As the day unfolds, we take a moment to indulge in some retail therapy at Watertown Brand Outlet Center. However, in summary, it is only a large, possibly better-than-average shopping mall, similar to those that can be found in a number of cities throughout the world. Back then, when we visited eastern Australia, we had bought fragrances and perfume at Chemist Warehouse. So we headed to the Northbridge outlet to buy products of our liking.

Indonesia Island Trip. Day 1: Lombok - Gili Terawangan

Sarapan pagi  kat airport We had been rotating to visit the Southeast Asia country each year and this is the fourth time visit to Indonesia after Bali (2010),  Bukittinggi (2012) and Bandung (2014). Looks like we made a return every 2 years, that's interesting! We may need to consider other countries like Brunei, Philippines or Cambodia in the near future. Three hours later, we arrived Lombok International Airport at noon. We were welcomed by Pak Ibrahim's staff shortly after clearing immigration and collecting our luggage. The weather that day was slightly overcast. En route to Teluk Kodek Port, we stopped at Sukarara Weaving Village. By the time we reached there, it was raining heavily. It is a traditional craft of weaving center located in Lombok West Nusa Tenggara. Not much seen as it felt, we had  ayam taliwang for lunch at Taliwang Alam Nyaman restaurant, known for its famous local dish. Alpukat Jus (Avocado Juice) is also a must try whenever you vi...

Singapore Trip: A lion-city escapade

Watch out! It is a zika-free :P trip to the city of light that we had on the 2nd mid-term school holiday, apart from the 'balik kampung' to Ipoh and JB on both week end. My wife managed to secure a stay for 2 nights at the 'Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan' where it supposed to be a big family trip with my siblings.  It was a big vacation house, which I believe can cater at least 15-20 people. For some reasons, they had to turn it down. Note: Pictures taken are not in the best quality as I'm still get my hands on the new DSLR camera.. wink.. wink..
