Western Australia Trip. Day 6: Harvey Region and Bunbury

A road trip to the Harvey Region and Bunbury is a great way to explore Western Australia’s charm. From cheese-tasting to secret gardens, there’s something for everyone. This post will walk you through a family-friendly journey, packed with food stops, scenic spots, and relaxing activities.

We started our road trip with a 170 km drive southbound to the Harvey Region. The journey was smooth, and the scenery along the way was relaxing. Our first stop was at Waroona Memorial Hall, a quiet spot perfect for stretching our legs. This brief pause gave us a moment to appreciate the local history and snap some photos before continuing on.

Harvey Cheese, a must-visit for food lovers, was our next destination. Here, we got to watch cheese-making in action, which was both educational and fun for the whole family. Afterward, we treated ourselves to some delicious cheese tastings. The variety of flavors made it hard to pick a favorite! To top it off, we enjoyed a late coffee and cake breakfast in their cozy café area.

After filling up on cheese and coffee, we headed over to the Harvey Dam Wall and its surrounding areas. This place is ideal for families looking for outdoor fun or just some downtime in nature. We walked around Gibbs Pool and took in the beautiful gardens nearby.

Next on our itinerary were the picturesque Stirling Cottage Gardens, located right at the corner of South Western Highway and James Stirling Place. These gardens are full of charm with attractions like a 19th-century-style fountain, a small orchard, and even an enchanting secret garden that felt like stepping into another world.

One standout feature is the artistic Butterfly Tree, which is perfect for photos or just admiring up close. If you visit during winter, don’t miss out on their vibrant tulip season—it adds even more color and beauty to this already magical place.

For literary fans or those traveling with kids, there’s also something special: the May Gibbs Trail, which celebrates this famous Australian author’s work. It’s an easy walk through lovely surroundings that everyone can enjoy together

After a full day exploring the Harvey Region, we arrived in Bunbury around 2 PM. We checked into the Clifton Motel & Grittleton Lodge, our base for the night. The accommodations were cozy and welcoming, offering a mix of modern comfort and old-world charm. This spot was perfect for families, with clean rooms and friendly service. Its location made it easy to explore Bunbury without spending too much time driving.

We took a short rest here to recharge before heading out again. Feeling hungry after our drive, we decided on Bunbury Kebab and Pizza for a late lunch. The portions were generous, making it an excellent choice for families on a budget or those with hearty appetites. Everyone found something they liked on the menu—simple food but satisfying after a busy day.

After lunch, we spent about an hour driving around Bunbury’s center point. This gave us time to take in the town’s relaxed vibe while spotting some local landmarks from the car. We dropped the kids halfway and let them roam the small town by themselves.

A super blue moon was expected on the next day.

One of the highlights of our trip was catching the sunset by a nearby beach, just minutes from our motel. Watching the sky change colors over the Indian Ocean was truly breathtaking—a peaceful moment that both adults and kids could enjoy together.

The beach area wasn’t crowded, which made it even better for relaxing after a long day on the road. If you’re visiting Bunbury, don’t miss this chance to unwind by the water as nature puts on its evening show.

Indonesia Island Trip. Day 1: Lombok - Gili Terawangan

Sarapan pagi  kat airport We had been rotating to visit the Southeast Asia country each year and this is the fourth time visit to Indonesia after Bali (2010),  Bukittinggi (2012) and Bandung (2014). Looks like we made a return every 2 years, that's interesting! We may need to consider other countries like Brunei, Philippines or Cambodia in the near future. Three hours later, we arrived Lombok International Airport at noon. We were welcomed by Pak Ibrahim's staff shortly after clearing immigration and collecting our luggage. The weather that day was slightly overcast. En route to Teluk Kodek Port, we stopped at Sukarara Weaving Village. By the time we reached there, it was raining heavily. It is a traditional craft of weaving center located in Lombok West Nusa Tenggara. Not much seen as it felt, we had  ayam taliwang for lunch at Taliwang Alam Nyaman restaurant, known for its famous local dish. Alpukat Jus (Avocado Juice) is also a must try whenever you vi...

Singapore Trip: A lion-city escapade

Watch out! It is a zika-free :P trip to the city of light that we had on the 2nd mid-term school holiday, apart from the 'balik kampung' to Ipoh and JB on both week end. My wife managed to secure a stay for 2 nights at the 'Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan' where it supposed to be a big family trip with my siblings.  It was a big vacation house, which I believe can cater at least 15-20 people. For some reasons, they had to turn it down. Note: Pictures taken are not in the best quality as I'm still get my hands on the new DSLR camera.. wink.. wink..
