Western Australia Trip. Day 4: Perth - Cervantes

Cervantes is another hidden gem in Western Australia that offers stunning landscapes, unique activities, and plenty of family-friendly spots. We started our journey by driving 130 kilometers to Lancelin. This area is famous for having the largest white sand dunes in Western Australia. As we approached, the sight of the towering dunes was breathtaking. The bright white sand contrasts beautifully with the blue sky, making it a perfect spot for family photos.

Once we arrived, we couldn’t resist exploring these massive sand hills. The dunes are great for sandboarding, which is an exciting activity that everyone should try at least once. We rented boards and climbed up to the highest point while the kids took ATV rides. The thrill of speeding down the slope was exhilarating! We spent hours walking around on the soft, warm sand and made sure to capture plenty of pictures; this place offers some of the best photo opportunities we found in Australia.

Checked out from the Perth apartment

After enjoying the dunes, we headed to Nilgen Lookout, a beautiful nature reserve nearby. This lookout provides fantastic views of wildflowers when they are in season. We were lucky enough to see some blooming flowers during our visit. It’s a peaceful spot where you can relax and take in nature's beauty.

From Nilgen Lookout, we made a quick stop at West Hills Wind Farm. West Hills Wind Farm is conveniently located near the Nilgen Lookout and is definitely worth a visit. The tall wind turbines provide a striking contrast against the landscape, providing another opportunity for great photos.

Both stops allowed us to enjoy Western Australia's natural beauty while giving us a moment to stretch our legs before continuing our adventure.

After our nature stops, it was time for lunch at the Lobster Shack in Cervantes. This local eatery is known for its fresh seafood dishes, particularly its lobster rolls. We were excited to try them! The atmosphere was casual and welcoming—perfect for families like ours. We ordered various dishes featuring seafood caught right off the coast nearby. The lobster roll was delicious—filled with tender lobster meat and served on fresh bread.

While waiting for our food, we enjoyed watching boats come in from fishing trips nearby. It added to the charm of this seaside restaurant. Eating here felt like part of our adventure rather than just grabbing a meal; it gave us insight into local culture and cuisine.

After lunch, we checked into Cervantes Pinnacles Motel for a quick rest before heading out again later in the evening. This part of our trip combined excitement with relaxation as we soaked up everything Cervantes had to offer!

After a fun day of exploring, we arrived at Cervantes Pinnacles Motel. This place is a great choice for families. The rooms are clean and spacious, providing enough space for everyone to relax. We appreciated the friendly staff who welcomed us warmly. The motel has a convenient location, making it easy to visit nearby attractions. After checking in, we took a moment to unwind and recharge. We enjoyed some snacks while discussing our plans for the evening.

As the sun began to set, we headed out to the Pinnacles for an evening visit. It’s only a short drive from our motel and well worth it. The Pinnacles Desert is famous for its unique limestone formations that rise from golden quartz sands. When we arrived, we were amazed by the sight before us. The different shapes of the columns create an otherworldly landscape that feels like stepping into another planet. The golden light of sunset made everything look even more stunning.

Walking through this ancient site was magical. We took our time exploring various paths among the towering stones. Some formations looked like giant fingers reaching toward the sky; others resembled castles built from stone. We made sure to take plenty of photos during this visit—the lighting was perfect! Kids loved running around and pretending they were explorers discovering new lands. The quietness of the desert added to our experience as well; it felt peaceful after a busy day filled with activities. Watching as dusk settled over the landscape was unforgettable—this is truly one of Western Australia’s treasures.

We witnessed the total solar eclipse at Pinnacles

Indonesia Island Trip. Day 1: Lombok - Gili Terawangan

Sarapan pagi  kat airport We had been rotating to visit the Southeast Asia country each year and this is the fourth time visit to Indonesia after Bali (2010),  Bukittinggi (2012) and Bandung (2014). Looks like we made a return every 2 years, that's interesting! We may need to consider other countries like Brunei, Philippines or Cambodia in the near future. Three hours later, we arrived Lombok International Airport at noon. We were welcomed by Pak Ibrahim's staff shortly after clearing immigration and collecting our luggage. The weather that day was slightly overcast. En route to Teluk Kodek Port, we stopped at Sukarara Weaving Village. By the time we reached there, it was raining heavily. It is a traditional craft of weaving center located in Lombok West Nusa Tenggara. Not much seen as it felt, we had  ayam taliwang for lunch at Taliwang Alam Nyaman restaurant, known for its famous local dish. Alpukat Jus (Avocado Juice) is also a must try whenever you vi...

Singapore Trip: A lion-city escapade

Watch out! It is a zika-free :P trip to the city of light that we had on the 2nd mid-term school holiday, apart from the 'balik kampung' to Ipoh and JB on both week end. My wife managed to secure a stay for 2 nights at the 'Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan' where it supposed to be a big family trip with my siblings.  It was a big vacation house, which I believe can cater at least 15-20 people. For some reasons, they had to turn it down. Note: Pictures taken are not in the best quality as I'm still get my hands on the new DSLR camera.. wink.. wink..
