Europe Trip. Day 5: Bruges & Ghent, Belgium

We opted for Bruges and Ghent trip by bus organized by Brussels City Tour. Avail one self of the green scenery along the journey that took about an hour to reach the city center. And nearing Bruges city center, we felt in love with the calm and serene neighborhood.

Upon arrival, we were guided to a medieval bell tower known as Belfry of Bruges from the backside before proceeded to Markt. It was a public square with a neo-gothical architecture of the Provinciaal Hof. We took our sweet time enjoying the view of the Markt.
The bus dropped us at the visitor parking space
Passing by the Sint-Salvatorskathedraal on our way to Grand-Place
We walked along Oude Burg
Nice place for sipping coffee in the evening
The Belfry of Bruges corridor with nice ceiling
Off-beaten path, we got into the bell tower compound.

Wished that we have more time to sip coffee at this cafe
Far behind was the Monument Jan Breydel
Provinciaal Hof, former meeting place for the provincial government of West Flanders
Then we walked through Breideelstraat in between the government office and rows of shops to reach the Burg Square.

The Bruges City Hall
Vlaamse Overheid, the government office
Should we have tea here?
We rode the horse cart after the lunch
Let's play at Burg Square
After the walking tour, we took a pleasant boat cruise along the canals. Before lunch, we walked along Mariastraat to stop at one of the Belgian chocolate shop, Lady Chocolate. There were many chocolate shops along that street.

Stopped for lunch in a restaurant at Wijngaardstraat
After lunch, we rested by the canal
Suka Nu'man lepas shopping coklat
Our next destination was Ghent, where we were given just above an hour to explore the city center, on our own. A bit contra to the serene Bruge neighborhood, Ghent was a typical Europe city with lots of colonial buildings.

The tour started from the Reep to the Korenmarkt

Passing through the Saint Bavo Catherak

Facing the cathedral is the Belfry of Ghent
Saint Bavo also known as Sint Baafs
Further down is the Saint Nicholas Church
A blend of colonial building and modern transportation
Saint Nicholas from distant
Korenmarkt shopping mall
Got to know that vehicle are not allowed to get into the city
Looking for direction
Shopping district of Graslei
A snack meal costs €2.50
Mamarazzi?

It's already 5 o'clock in the evening. The bus headed back to the hotel and it's our last day in Brussel... :-(

Journey Review

Thinking of the same idea as what Zarin did in his wrapping up post, I'll do the same for the sake of my own record.  This post will be updated from time to time. Some of the trip may have a  specific write-up  and you may click on the travelling month. Here is the world travel map, courtesy of TripAdvisor. A bit of Statistics: Total countries visited = 22/195 [Last updated : September 2023] Our Travel Map. [Courtesy of TripAdvisor. According to them, we only covered 13% of the Earth at the moment :P .... still long way to go and we didn't show USA map as to when we will be there]

Singapore Trip: A lion-city escapade

Watch out! It is a zika-free :P trip to the city of light that we had on the 2nd mid-term school holiday, apart from the 'balik kampung' to Ipoh and JB on both week end. My wife managed to secure a stay for 2 nights at the 'Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan' where it supposed to be a big family trip with my siblings.  It was a big vacation house, which I believe can cater at least 15-20 people. For some reasons, they had to turn it down. Note: Pictures taken are not in the best quality as I'm still get my hands on the new DSLR camera.. wink.. wink..

Shopping sakan di Langkawi

Kenangan bersama mak... Bulan januari yang lepas, rombongan keluarga Perak buat trip ke Melaka. Sekarang giliran keluarga Johor pulak pegi berjalan.. errr bershopping sakan di Langkawi. Kalau nak diikutkan, gambar tengah syiok bershopping lagi banyak.
