Balkan Discovery Trip. Day 7: Tirana, Albania & Ohrid, North Macedonia

The Luani Arte Hotel is situated in Shkoder, Albania, on Rruga Gjon Buzuku street. The hotel made a good notion on us, not only because of the late dinner served on the day we came, but also because of the fantastic under contemporary idea that the hotel displayed. It was a brief visit, but it was one of the most unforgettable.

We spent the entire day in two cities: Tirana, Albania, and Ohrid, North Macedonia. It took 2 hours to get from Shkoder to Tirana. When the bus stopped at Kolaudimi i Automjeteve, we got nice two hot chocolate.

Tirana's centre is Skanderbeg Square, named for Albanian national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeu. Many historical structures surrounded the area, including the National Historical Museum, the Palace of Culture, the National Bank, and many more. We just went into the Clock Tower since we had so little time. Nonetheless, I was the only one that ascended the tower's stairs because the site only accepts cash payment for the admission, and we only had a few pence.

A Byzantine-era building, is now a shopping mall, was our next visit. It is called Kalaja e Tiranës, about 5 minutes walked from the square and passed through modern mall Toptani.

I guessed this was a water fountain during Byzantine era

Nice ambient, however we just peek inside the mall

Then, we continued to Sofra Turke for lunch.

The journey continued to another country, North Macedonia. Heading toward the east, we stopped at Elbasan to pray at Naziresha Mosque and had tea-break at Kompleksi Nogu 40 minutes later. We arrived at Hotel Aqualina in Ohrid after four and half hours. The buffer dinner were served at the hotel and it started to dark. We walked to the Lake Ohrid, just in front the hotel and saw a wedding ceremony was held at the nearby restaurant. We have been relaxing by lake ohrid enjoying the view at night.

Indonesia Island Trip. Day 1: Lombok - Gili Terawangan

Sarapan pagi  kat airport We had been rotating to visit the Southeast Asia country each year and this is the fourth time visit to Indonesia after Bali (2010),  Bukittinggi (2012) and Bandung (2014). Looks like we made a return every 2 years, that's interesting! We may need to consider other countries like Brunei, Philippines or Cambodia in the near future. Three hours later, we arrived Lombok International Airport at noon. We were welcomed by Pak Ibrahim's staff shortly after clearing immigration and collecting our luggage. The weather that day was slightly overcast. En route to Teluk Kodek Port, we stopped at Sukarara Weaving Village. By the time we reached there, it was raining heavily. It is a traditional craft of weaving center located in Lombok West Nusa Tenggara. Not much seen as it felt, we had  ayam taliwang for lunch at Taliwang Alam Nyaman restaurant, known for its famous local dish. Alpukat Jus (Avocado Juice) is also a must try whenever you vi...

Singapore Trip: A lion-city escapade

Watch out! It is a zika-free :P trip to the city of light that we had on the 2nd mid-term school holiday, apart from the 'balik kampung' to Ipoh and JB on both week end. My wife managed to secure a stay for 2 nights at the 'Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan' where it supposed to be a big family trip with my siblings.  It was a big vacation house, which I believe can cater at least 15-20 people. For some reasons, they had to turn it down. Note: Pictures taken are not in the best quality as I'm still get my hands on the new DSLR camera.. wink.. wink..
