Northern Thailand Trip. Day 4-5: Chiang Mai - Kuala Lumpur
On the Saturday morning, Mr Mouthien's wife, Mrs Nhai picked up us at 9.00 am for a full day tour to Mae Taeng district, about 60 km from the city center.
This comes as no surprise as visiting the elephants is the must tourist activity in Chiang Mai, and in fact in most of our visit to Thailand. Other than sitting on an elephant, ox cart riding and bamboo rafting were unique activities that we experienced all in one place.
We spent almost 4 hours at Mae Taeng Elephant Park, where halal lunch buffet included with the package. Instead of buffer, our lunch were served as we were the only Muslim family that day. Mrs Nhai informed us that most of the elephant camps were experiencing deterioration on visitors, especially the Chinese tourist. Some of the small park may need to close shops.
Hey! What's wrong with my tummy??
Let's feed the elephant
Later after the show, Nu'man and I take the chance to ride them
Elephant parade signed starts of the show
The show ended, Nu'man and I rode the ox cart to the long-neck hill tribes village. We were told that the tribes were not allowed to trespass their land. Their men were only allowed to work at nearby orchard as well as the elephant park. The family received salary as the worker of the hill-tribe living museum. We we shocked and laughed when Mrs Nhia told that they do online shopping via Lazada and Shoppee... :)
R&R stop for the oxen
She has the longest neck among the tribes
Scarfs weaving was one of the source of incomes
At first she was reluctant to take picture with us
Passed noontime, We return to the elephant park for the bamboo rafting.
Yet another awesome experience, bamboo rafting along the Mae Taeng river
There were no visitors that ride the bamboo craft
Nu'man was given a chance to control the raft
After lunch, we chose to visit the Tiger kingdom and crocodile farm, as Mrs Nhai gave us several options to stop on the way back to the city. Other interesting stops were cobras farm and butterflies farm.
You may try real encounter with your chosen small or big cats
Nu'man reluctant to take pictures with the cubs
For a fee, you can take picture with this 'tame' white tiger
Then, we visited the crocodiles farm.
The final show would be he let his head inside one of the crocodile's mouth
The feeding time!!!
On the way backed to the hotel, (actually we decided to be dropped of at night market) we stop at another two places, Thai Silk Village and Umbrella Making Center.

Mrs Nhai dropped us at Hilal town so that we can had our Zhuhr and Asr prayers at Masjid Hidayatul Islam. We dined Fueng Fah for northern Thailand's famous noodles khao soi.
Our third comeback to this area
As the Covid-19 pandemic was on the rise, we had taken several precaution measures as recommended by the authority. We had daily body temperature checking and will be on self-quarantine when we return back to home, the next day. We were still allowed to get on the in-bound flight at 3.10 pm. We just stayed low in the morning and only transferred to the airport noontime by Mr Mouthien and his wife. So guys, till to our next adventure, la gòn kráb, la gòn ká!
Thinking of the same idea as what Zarin did in his wrapping up post, I'll do the same for the sake of my own record. This post will be updated from time to time. Some of the trip may have a specific write-up and you may click on the travelling month. Here is the world travel map, courtesy of TripAdvisor. A bit of Statistics: Total countries visited = 22/195 [Last updated : September 2023] Our Travel Map. [Courtesy of TripAdvisor. According to them, we only covered 13% of the Earth at the moment :P .... still long way to go and we didn't show USA map as to when we will be there]
Sarapan pagi kat airport We had been rotating to visit the Southeast Asia country each year and this is the fourth time visit to Indonesia after Bali (2010), Bukittinggi (2012) and Bandung (2014). Looks like we made a return every 2 years, that's interesting! We may need to consider other countries like Brunei, Philippines or Cambodia in the near future. Three hours later, we arrived Lombok International Airport at noon. We were welcomed by Pak Ibrahim's staff shortly after clearing immigration and collecting our luggage. The weather that day was slightly overcast. En route to Teluk Kodek Port, we stopped at Sukarara Weaving Village. By the time we reached there, it was raining heavily. It is a traditional craft of weaving center located in Lombok West Nusa Tenggara. Not much seen as it felt, we had ayam taliwang for lunch at Taliwang Alam Nyaman restaurant, known for its famous local dish. Alpukat Jus (Avocado Juice) is also a must try whenever you vi...
Watch out! It is a zika-free :P trip to the city of light that we had on the 2nd mid-term school holiday, apart from the 'balik kampung' to Ipoh and JB on both week end. My wife managed to secure a stay for 2 nights at the 'Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan' where it supposed to be a big family trip with my siblings. It was a big vacation house, which I believe can cater at least 15-20 people. For some reasons, they had to turn it down. Note: Pictures taken are not in the best quality as I'm still get my hands on the new DSLR camera.. wink.. wink..
