Indonesia West Sumatra Trip. Day 1: Bukittinggi

It's Numan's fifth birthday! When our flight took off for Minangkabau International Airport, one of the cabin crew announced and wished him the best birthday celebration. You're growing up too fast, my boy!

Our flight touched down in Bukittinggi at 8-ish in the morning. We headed to the city of Bukittinggi after meeting with our driver and tour guide. It was just about 80 km from the airport to Bukittinggi city center, but it took almost 2 hours. Certainly, the distance and traffic do not determine the duration of the journey. It was just the locals driving leisurely at a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

As we were passing through Anai Valley, we did a photo stop at Anai Waterfall. It's a small waterfall just beside the windy roadside heading to Minangkabau village. Then we continued to Pandai Sikek, a famous village with traditional wooden crafts and weaving clothes.

Small waterfall with many patrons flocked in
Eh, those two guys behind us wore the same shirt pattern.
Quite unique waterfall because lies nearly with the main road
Takde pun orang mandi?

Call for prayer.

Best view ever...!

After visiting Pandai Sikek, we stopped for lunch at a well-known Padang food restaurant, but we were not briefed about how the locals served their meals. They stacked up several bowls of dishes called kobokan, and you'll get charged for whichever bowls that you touched and the others go back to the kitchen. Since all meals were included in the private package, we initially took all the food served to us, which led to some embarrassing moments during several lunches and dinners, until we finally asked our tour guide for clarification on the third day. :p

Anyhow, the foods were delicious!

We stayed for 3 nights at The Hills Bukittinggi Hotel, situated in the city center, about a 5-minute walk to the iconic Jam Gadang landmark. We hung out around the clock tower after the dinner and saw mascots hero treats the antics of small children.
