Sagano Scenic Railway |
The last two days of this trip ended with Sagano day trip. We opted to skip the Kinkakuji and Ryoanji Temple. It takes around 20 minutes to reach Saga Arashiyama station using Sanin Main Line from the city of Kyoto.
Once we arrived at the Saga Arashiyama, there was another station, Saga Torokko Station, outfitted with nostalgic trains featuring wooden benches. The 25 minutes ride took us towards the Arashiyama station given us a pleasant view of the scenery through the forested ravine and rough river.

We were heading to the Arashiyama (Storm mountain). |
There is an option to take a bus from the Torokko Kameoka station heading to Hazugawa river where you can have a river tour. Again, we opted not to take the boat ride as the time constraint. We need to transit in Kyoto to get our luggage kept in the hotel, before heading to Osaka for a night. We took some pictures with Arashiyama background before we decided to return. We skipped the Arashiyama National park and the Iwatayama monkey park that initially we planned to visit (we have visited the monkey park on the Shodo island). Half way of the train ride, we stopped and walked through the well-known Arashiyama's Bamboo Groove. Nothing that can be described the leisurely stroll through the path.
