Emirates Trip. Day 6: Sharjah

An epic view of the AUS Main Building
That was the day that my wife presented her technical paper at the American University of Sharjah. I didn't planned anything and it was pretty laid back on that day. The university is located 17 km from our hotel and within the education city. Once reaching that area, we stumbled upon the Taj Mahal-like architecture, which housed the universities. It was a splendid and epic view that caused us to forget to take pictures of the scenery.

Ni plak, ada gaya student ke lecturer?
We spent the late afternoon at a public Al Mamzar Beach Park, a public beach. It's worthy noting that not all beaches are free access, and Al Khan Beach is the other alternative. We didn't bother to bring along our swimming gear, and Nu'man was really frustrated. Looking at the stunning view of the beach and, surprisingly, its crystal-clear shore makes one really contented. Despite his hesitation, Nu'man finally did swim with his undies. Alaaa, orang bukan kenal pun kan! (No one knows you!).

I were bit surprised with the crystal-clear water

Stunning with the exquisite beauty of the white sands beach
I like the high-rise building view from the sea
They should provide more shade...

In the evening, we roamed through the city and souk (market). Al Shanasiyah was the main spotlight that night. My wife bought saffron, a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus (thanks, Wiki!), at a rather cheap price compared to our local market.

The souk was one of the traditional market selling pearl and fish products.
Another souk called Saqr, adjacent to the Souk Al Arsah

It was our last night in Sharjah so let me do a simple wrap-up. Three nights in Sharjah was about right, though we passed several museums and both the Al Majaz and Al Qasba neighborhoods. At least there is a reason to make a comeback to Dubai as well as explore Abu Dhabi. The first map shows the Heart of Sharjah, about 5 km to the southwest of our hotel, Swiss-Belhotel. While the Mleiha desert is located to the southeast, where AUS is in the middle, as shown in the second map.

The Sharjah City Center
Mleiha was about 70 km from the city center
